Assets and Resources Analysis
When you are planning a project one of the questions you need to ask is what assets and resources do I need.

Assets are the "elements" you need to put together to make your finished project. Depending on the project, an assets might be:
  • images,
  • animations e.g. an animated gif
  • graphics, for example a flag shaped banner, or a flower shape to go behing a title
  • videos
  • sounds
  • maps
  • blocks of text e.g. a slogan, or description of a ride at a theme park

There are often three different sub tasks that involve assets:

1) A list of assets you are going to need for the project
2) Details of the actual assets you used, where you got them from, where they will be used, copyright status (there's an asset table template from OCR for this.)
3) Preparing the assets for use. This oculd be crop or trimming them, remove backgrounds, resizing, changing file types etc.
Resources - refers to the equipment you will need for the project. Depending on the project it could include:
  • Details of the computer you will need
  • Camera
  • Video Camera  (and any additional equipment eg. tripod, lights etc)
  • Microphone
  • Graphics tablet and pen
  • Scanner (for converting physical  paper based assets into digital ones)
  • Printer

For each resource you should provide some detail of what it is and what you need it for.

The resources section sometimes includes Software you will need too, although on the iMedia course there is sometimes a seperate task for software. This page will show you some options for common software types. When you are writing about software consider the different types you might need. For example:

  • Something to create the multimedia product, eg graphics software
  • Something to view the finished product. eg. a web browser
  • Something to edit the assets eg a sound editor
  • Something for editing text perhaps
  • Something for finding information and images

When writing about software

  • 1) Identify what type of software eg. App development software
  • 2) Identify specific pieces of software for that type eg Appypie, Appsheet, Appery.io, iBuildApp
  • 3) Discuss each piece of software, explaining what makes it suitable.
Eg - I could use AppyPie. This is suitable because it lets me build a mobile app. I can use it without writing Code, it allows logins, it has a testimonial feature, it can be linked to social media, it can create a store.. etc
  • 4) Once you have written about the options, state which one you have chosen to use
