Hybrid and Exotic Malware Types
This is what most modern Malware actually is. It is simply the correct term used to describe Malware that has multiple different malware elements.

Most people just use the term "virus" to describe a hybrid type rather than getting into the details of what it actually is.

For example a hybrid might:

  • Get onto the computer via a combination of phishing, acting like a trojan and user behaviour.
  • Once on the computer it might use its rootkit part to hide its activity
  • It could then open a backdoor
  • Install a bit of spyware
  • Copy and send some personal data,
  • Then log key strokes to capture logins
  • Change passwords
  • Use its ransomware element to make demands
  • And of course use it worm elements to copy and spread itself

All in all a nasty piece of software that would do a lot of damage
