Moodboard
A moodboard is a visual tool . Its purpose is to generate ideas for the "feel of what is needed " for a project -  i.e. the look, colour and styles - and to help stimulate creativity. The audience is the designer.

Moodboards are used in lots of creative and multimedia projects such as movies, adverts, animations, website, games, graphics etc. They are also used a lot in other creative areas such as interior designs.

A moodboard can either be physical or digital:
A physical moodboard is made on paper, or noticeboards using glue, pins etc. It contains:

  • Images
    • relevant, existing, similar products,
    • photos,
    • print outs from  websites,
    • things cut out of magazines etc
  • Colours - especially those that fit the brief or have been used before - maybe paint samplers
  • Text – key words, fonts and styles, either hand written or printed out
  • Textures – fabrics & other materials
A digital moodboard is made on any software program, such as presentation software. It contains

  • Images
    • relevant, existing, similar products:
    • photos,
    • logos,
    • screen shots from games, films, websites etc
  • Colours - especially those that fit the brief or have been used before
  • Text – key words, fonts and styles
  • Sound clips
  • Video clips
To convert a physical moodboard into a digital one (to digitise it) you would need a Scanner or maybe a camera (this has come up a couple of times on the exam.)
