Spending Money in Games and Apps
Be very, very careful spending money in games and apps. It is very easy to lose track and spend way more than you realise.

It seems like every game, every app has an option to subscribe, or to upgrade to a "Pro" version or full version. On top of that a lot of games are free to download, and free to play but there are things in the game that you need to buy. These could be "speed ups" to make something happen quicker. It could be "tools", like a better weapon, or skins, or it could be in game currency, such as "gold" that you need to make progress.

A number of games take it further and have loot boxes, or loot crates where you buy them and then open them to see what you actually got. When you do this you are paying money not knowing if what you are buying is any use . In effect you are gambling when you buy loot boxes and the system is set up to make sure what you get is not worth the money far more often than it is.

Some social media apps have a slightly different way of getting money - they let you send "gifts" to other people. Sometimes these gifts might get you something in return, like a shout out, sometimes they don't get you anything.
These games and apps are designed to be addictive and to make you want to spend your money to make progress, to be popular. They encourage you to spend more and more and people get carried away, spending far too much.  I personally know teenagers who have spent over £250 of their parents money  in under a month, and adults who have spent well over £1000 a month on a mobile game, and there are lots of news stories like this one and this one.
