When and How Much To Revise
When should I start revising
Start as early as you can, ideally September of year 10. It is never too late to start revising though, even a small bit will help

How much should I revise?
For me revision is an ongoing process, so how much is a difficult question to completely answer.

If you are looking at regular revision over a number of months you should:

  • summarise your notes from lessons each week, I'd do this every couple of days, creating mind maps or lotus diagrams at the end of each topic. It should take roughly 30 mins to create a good mind map or lotus diagram for each topic
  • learn the topics as you finish them - go over them in maybe 40 minute blocks, should take two or three blocks for each topic but keep at it until you “know them” .
  • regularly review known topics (5 mins  / day / every day) , switching both subjects and topics each day. Make use of spaced review - reviewing after 10 mins, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month.
Be aware that your attention and focus will dip in and out on a topic.

There will be a point at which you need to take a "break", this could be an actual break but unless you really need to break off and go outside or for a drink, it might be better to switch of task, say 20 mins of working with the mind map then 10 mins of flash card based questions and answers, then a mini quiz, then finish on a fill in the gap type sheet.
