Summarising complex ideas with Lotus Diagrams
A lotus diagram is similar to a mind map but it has a more organised and structured layout. This can make it easier to see all the information on a sub topic

Lotus diagrams are great when the main topic has a number of sub topics, and each of those sub topics has a number of points.

The main idea is in the centre with each of the subtopics in a coloured grid around it. This centre square forms a top level summary.

Each sub topic then has its own "break out" square with all its points surrounding it, effectively creating a summary for each sub topic too.

Here is a partially completed lotus diagram, there a pdf file of it here which might be easier to read.  And there is a "blank" word template if you want to make your own
