Creating Sprites and Selecting Sprites
Scratch works by programming  on screen objects. It lets you create objects, and change what they look like (their attributes). The main objects in scratch are called  Sprites.

There is a built in library of sprites or you can draw / import your own. The video below gives you a quick tour of the scratch screen, and shows you how to open a sprite from the library and how to draw your own.
