Image Search
A basic image search is simple - type in your keyword, hit search and switch to the image tab but there are some tools that can make it much easier to find the images you need - click on the tools link (on the images tab) to see them - as shown
Using this tools you can select images of a certain:

  • Size
  • Colour (very useful)
  • Usage right (see below for what this is)
  • Type (eg clip art, line drawing, gif)
  • Time (it was uploaded to the web, can be useful if you are after something very recent)
The best way to see what these all do is to try them out.
Usage rights
Every image belongs to the person who took it, drew it or created it. You do not automatically have a right to just use it. They are protected by copyright and if you want to use them commercially (for a business) or for your GCSE work you need to have permission to use them. You can use them for other education projects (yr 7-9), and for purely personal projects.Learn more about copyright here

You can use the usage right tool to find images where that permission has been given in advance. You need the Labelled for reuse choice or Labelled for reuse with modification if you are going to edit the image at all.  Some images are available under licences which have certain things you have to do to use that image - sometimes that is "attribution" (saying whose image it is), sometimes it is a fee. - see this page on creative commons for more on free but restricted licences
