Folders and Filenames
It is easier to find your work when it is organised. At school you do work for your different subjects in different books to help keep related work together. It should be the same for all your work on the computer.

To do this you need to make folders to keep your work in  and give them sensible names. You also need sensbile names for your files:

What is a sensible name?
  • One that tells you something about what it is
  • So a file about an end of year party should be called End of Year party or end of year party poster, and not thingy or publication1
  • Folder names that tell you about what is inside them
  • Everything to do with a certain topic (say the party mentioned above) should be stored in a singe folder - in this case called party.

It is also really important that when you save you work you actually put it in the folder - a number of students have a set of well named and organised folders that have nothing in them!

How to make a folder
  • Go to the Computer icon on your desktop
  • Go to your drive (one with your name on in school) and open it
  • Now Click on New Folder
